5th World Forum on Cities and Territories of Peace

Montevideo destino de paz

May 2 and 3 · Antel Arena

May 2 and 3. Antel Arena

The World Forum on Cities and Territories of Peace is one of the two activities taking place as part of Montevideo, Destination of Peace—an event that will bring together training, exchange, and exhibition opportunities, as well as cultural and entertainment activities. Our city is once again hosting an event of this magnitude due to the global recognition and prestige it holds, as well as its more than 30 years of experience in international engagement.

5th World Forum on Cities and Territories of Peace

It is conceived as a multi-actor and multi-level meeting process aimed at creating a common space for debate and reflection to develop solutions—framed within local public policies—that foster urban environments capable of addressing manifestations of violence, where citizens coexist in peace. This event is structured around a human rights perspective, gender equality, sustainable development, peace, security, and justice.

The forum will serve as a platform to share case studies, best practices, and innovative strategies through presentation panels and workshops. The participation of multiple stakeholders will be essential in building collaborative solutions that enable cities to address current challenges in an inclusive and effective manner.

Thematic axes

The agenda of the 5th World Forum on Cities and Territories of Peace aims to structure discussions—based on relevant cases of participatory governance for coexistence and peace—around four thematic axes and three cross-cutting axes.

The thematic axes represent the four central topics of discussion and analysis in the forum:

        1.  Intolerance, racism, discrimination, and extremism
        2.  Migration, diaspora, and violence
        3.  Gender-based violence
        4.  Equality, inclusive development, and climate justice

Each of these topics is broken down into specific aspects that allow for a deeper understanding of their causes, effects, and potential solutions.

The cross-cutting axes address the practical tools and capacities needed by participating stakeholders to prevent and transform conflicts, as well as to reduce violence in territories. These are structured around three key dimensions:

      1. Citizen participation as an exercise of political power
      2. Resources for participatory governance for coexistence and peace
      3. City diplomacy and strategic multi-actor, multi-level coordination
